LATINO MINISTRY CELEBRATION 

The annual Latino Ministry Celebration is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at Washington National Cathedral. Bishop Chane will preside at the Eucharist. 2010 COMPENSATION GUIDES AND HEALTH PLAN RATES

The 2010 Compensation Guidelines for active clergy and lay employees will remain at 2009 levels with special consideration for enhanced compensation given to those whose compensation falls below these guidelines. Monthly health premiums in 2010 will be $643 individual, $1,187 employee plus one, $1,769 family. FOUNDERS' DAY CHORAL EVENSONG - BISHOP WALKER SCHOOL

BISHOP WALKER SCHOOL AT ST. MARY'S, FOGGY BOTTOM

At 10 a.m. Dec. 6, St. Mary's, Foggy Bottom will host pupils, faculty, staff and the Board of Trustees from the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys at a special worship service. MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The EDOW/MDG committee is happy to report that at General Convention, the .07 percent line item for the Millennium Development Goals was restored. Autumn's focus on stewardship is a good moment to raise your parish voice in behalf of the world's poorest people. OLD ALTAR HANGINGS AND VESTMENTS

A group at St. Peter's Church in Westfield, NY, converts old altar hangings and vestments into new garments, mostly priest and deacon stoles, designed and sewn by a small but faithful group of ladies of the church. Proceeds from the sales of new items go to the church's bell tower restoration fund. The group recently exhausted its collection of embellishments and other  materials gleaned from previously donated items and is seeking donations. ST. PAUL'S CHOIR OF MEN AND BOYS TO HOST OPEN HOUSE

St. Paul's, K Street will host an Open House on Oct. 18 for boys (and their families) who may be interested in the Choir of Men and Boys. The choir sings Evensong each Sunday from September to early June. The opportunities and musical education offered are on par with that of English Cathedral choirs, on which the St. Paul's choir is modeled. Choristers also have the opportunity to participate in professional recordings, concerts and tours. Families of any or no religious affiliation are warmly welcomed. APPLY NOW FOR THE SUMMER COLLEGIUM

Apply now for the Summer Collegium, a project in support of small congregations at Virginia Theological Seminary. Clergy (and their spouses or partners) from 25 small churches of all denominations are invited to spend nine days at VTS for encouragement, education, rest and renewal. All expenses are paid by a grant from the Lilly Endowment. This year's theme is Leadership in the Small Congregation. Keynote speaker is Alice Mann, a writer on congregational ministry, and John Bell from the Iona Community in Scotland will join the conference's worship team. HOPE FOR THE REST OF US AT THE STATE THEATER

A performance by country act The Lost Trailers, known for their hit singles "Holler Back" and "How 'Bout You Don't," is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 (doors open at 6 p.m.) at the State Theater in Falls Church, Va., with all proceeds to benefit medical service and education in rural Pinares, Honduras. HUMAN INTERACTION LAB TRAINING

Human Interaction Lab training, set for Feb.12-15 at St. Alban's, D.C.,  is an opportunity to learn more about yourself, how your behavior impacts others, and how you can function more effectively in a group and interpersonal situations. The competencies developed are those associated with what has been called emotional intelligence. Participants will learn about their own patterns of behavior as they accept responsibility for a group's life and work. FIRST WEDNESDAY CONCERTS AT ST. JOHN'S, LAFAYETTE SQUARE

A series of concerts featuring the new Lively-Fulcher pipe organ at St. John's, Lafayette Square will kick off at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 7 with associate choirmaster and organist Michael Lodico  performing works of the American, English and French Romantics, including works by Elgar, Barber, Vierne and Howells. EDOW FALL CLERGY GATHERING

The diocese's Fall Clergy Gathering is set for 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the 

National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase. Keynote speaker is Jon Meacham, editor of Newsweek, a Pulitzer Prize winning bestselling author and a commentator on politics, history and religious faith in America. Meacham will discuss his book "American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation" and the role of church and state in America today. NEW LATINO MINISTRY AT ST. ALBAN'S, D.C

A new Latino ministry will be launched at St. Alban's, D.C., with  a 5 p.m. Oct. 4 service where the Rt. Rev. Julio Holguin, bishop of the Episcopal Church of the Dominican Republic, will preside. Following this event, a Spanish-language service, with music, will be held at 5 p.m. each Sunday at the church. All those interested in participating are invited to attend. * The ALL YOUTH CATHEDRAL LOCK-IN is set for Nov 13. 

The theme is "Episco...what? EpiscoLOVE!" Participants will learn about the Bible's perspective on love and Jesus' commandment to love God, ourselves and one another. RUSSIAN ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM AT CHRIST, DURHAM

LYRA, a vocal ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia, will perform at Christ, Durham at 7 p.m. Oct. 2. All singers are professional musicians, singing in different churches of St. Petersburg.  Through their performance, they introduce the enormous musical heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian folk music. The church is located at 8685 Ironsides Road

ADVENT SILENT RETREAT

The Diocesan Retreat Committee will hold an Advent Silent Retreat on Dec. 4- 6 at Bon Secours Spiritual Center, Marriottsville. Retreat director will be the Very Rev. Ian Markham, dean of the Virginia Theological Seminary. The theme will be "Faith, Forgiveness and Peace: Bringing Human Complexity to God." The retreat will include prayer, private reflection and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. There will be opportunities for consultation or confession with Markham. The fee is $195. DATE CHANGE! PILGRIMAGE TO SOUTH AFRICA

HONDURAS TRIP RESCHEDULED

The diocesan mission trip to Honduras has been rescheduled for Jan. 10-20, 2010. The itinerary remains the same: Jan 10-15 in Copan in intensive one-on-one Spanish study, with home stays with local families; Jan. 16-20 in rural villages with Episcopal Church communities. NEW GRANT AVAILABLE TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN IN NEED

The Pitts Emergency Grant was recently created by the Saint Anna's Home of the Diocese of Washington. The one-time grant of up to $1,500 is designed to offer emergency assistance to women of at least 70 years old of African descent who are members of the Diocese of Washington when there is a critical, unexpected event which requires an immediate response. Funds will be paid directly to an entity, not an individual. The request must come from or be endorsed by a clergy member in the diocese. The process is confidential, and requests can be submitted at any time to: Pitts Emergency Grant of Saint Anna's Home, Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Episcopal Church House, Mt.
