The Regional Assembly for Regions 5 & 6 is set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. Saturday (Nov. 21) at Queen Anne School, Upper Marlboro. Clergy,

to attend. The guest speaker, the Rev. Bob Gallagher, will make a
presentation and lead discussion on issues concerning congregational

ADVENT SILENT RETREAT AT BON SECOURS

An Advent Silent Retreat sponsored by the Diocesan Retreat Committee is
set for Dec. 4-6 at Bon Secours Spiritual Center in Marriottsville, Md.
Bon Secours is an attractive and fully accessible facility, with an
outdoor labyrinth and woodland walks. Retreat director is the Very Rev.
Ian Markham, dean of Virginia Theological Seminary. The theme of the
retreat will be "Faith, Forgiveness and Peace: Bringing Human Complexity
to God." There will be opportunities for consultation or confession with

ADVENT WEEKEND RETREAT AT DAYSPRING

ADVENT QUIET DAY AT ST. MARY'S, FOGGY BOTTOM

The Tutu Institute for Prayer & Pilgrimage is offering an Advent Quiet
Day, titled "Incarnation: Body, Mind and Spirit," and led by the Rev.
Mpho Tutu and Tai Chi instructor Raymond Franklin-Vaughn. The event is

'Yes', and consider God's invitation to make the world a better place.
Ries is director of the Washington Theological Union's Spiritual

Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington invites members of the diocese

Homeless Walkathon on the National Mall. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

A RETREAT FOR CANCER SURVIVORS

A Women's Day of Reflection and Sharing: A Retreat for Cancer Survivors

INTERFAITH EVENT FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE

YesMEP, a partnership of diverse religious and secular Americans in the
Washington, D.C., area who support peace between Israelis and
Palestinians, will hold its first major event from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at
the Sixth and I Streets NW Synagogue. The event will feature an
Israeli-Palestinian rock band, Israeli and Palestinian bereaved family
members (from Parents Circle - Families Forum) sharing their stories,
readings from plays and performances by local musicians. Following the
performance, there will be a reception with light refreshments and an
opportunity to interact with the performers and speakers. General
admission: $15/advance; $18/door; seniors and under 25s/$10; premium

BETHLEHEM SERVICE

The third annual Joint Simulcast Worship Service with the People of
Bethlehem is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 19 in Washington National Cathedral's
Bethlehem Chapel. In Washington, the service will be led by Bishop John
Bryson Chane and Bishop Richard Graham of the Metropolitan Washington,
D.C. Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Dean Samuel T.
Lloyd and the Rev. Canon Steve Huber, the cathedral's vicar. In
Bethlehem Dr. Mitri Raheb, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas
Church in Bethlehem, Bishop Munib Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and Bishop Suheil Dawani of the
Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem will preside. The service is sponsored by
the Ad Hoc Committee for Bethlehem, Sharing Jerusalem and Washington
Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace. 

 

2009 CHILDREN TO CHILDREN ADVENT APPEAL

Materials have been mailed to each parish (Attn: Director of Sunday
School/Christian Education) and also can be found at www.edow.org/sapc
This year's appeal, through the sale of hand knitted stuffed teddy
bears, provides income to working mothers and grandmothers for their
children and families in Swaziland. Any Christmas requests must be
received by Dec. 14. Parishes are asked to send in group orders on the
parish order form included in the mailing or obtainable from the Web
site. Orders will be available, however, through January or as supplies
last. Materials include a storybook and an activities guide to use in

CHRISTMAS TREE SALE

Our Saviour, Silver Spring will hold its 53rd Annual Christmas Tree Sale
beginning Nov. 29.  Beautiful, high quality trees, sold with love and
good spirit. Proceeds support the mission and ministries of Our Saviour.
The sale is set for 3 to 9 p.m. most weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on

115th  DIOCESAN CONVENTION

The 115th Diocesan Convention is set for Jan. 29-30 at Washington
National Cathedral. The preacher at the Friday night Eucharist will be
Byron Rushing from the Diocese of Massachusetts. Keynote speaker will be
the Rev. Thomas Brackett, Program Officer: Church Planting Specialist,
Evangelism & Congregational Life Center, from the Episcopal Church
Center.

Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington's 2010 Mardi Gras Celebration

DISCIPLES OF CHRIST IN COMMUNITY 

The spring 2010 session of Disciples of Christ in Community at
Washington National Cathedral starts Jan. 23 and runs for 14 weeks. Each
session is two hours long, 7-9 p.m. One Saturday session will be held on
Feb. 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $100. Register at

Apply now for the Summer Collegium, a project in support of small
congregations at Virginia Theological Seminary. Clergy (and

EASTER PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND 

Join the Rev. Canon John Peterson on a pilgrimage to experience the
ancient rites and processions of Holy Week in Jerusalem from March

Orthodox Easter observances since the date for both calendars coincide
in 2010. Experience the culture and history of the region through
lectures and discussions, local cuisine, contemplative walks in sacred

Human Interaction Lab training, set for Feb.12-15 at St. Alban's, D.C.,

patterns of behavior as they accept responsibility for a group's life

HONDURAS TRIP 

The diocesan mission trip to Honduras is set for Jan. 10-20, 2010. The
itinerary is: Jan 10-15 in Copan in intensive Spanish study, with home
stays with local families; Jan. 16-20 in rural villages with Episcopal
Church communities. Costs will be about $1,000 including language study

NEW GRANT AVAILABLE TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN IN NEED

The Pitts Emergency Grant, created by the Saint Anna's Home of the
Diocese of Washington, is a one-time award of up to $1,500 designed to
offer emergency assistance to women of at least 70 years old of African
descent who are members of the Diocese of Washington when there is a
critical, unexpected event which requires an immediate response. For
