CHRISTIANITY AND OTHER RELIGIONS: LECTURE/DISCUSSION
"O Come All Ye Faithful - Christianity and Other Religions," a lecture
and discussion with Dr. Sathianathan Clarke, is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 10
in American University's Kay Spiritual Life Center Lounge. Clarke, a
priest in the Episcopal Church of South India, is the Bishop Sundo Kim
Chair in World Christianity and Professor of Theology, Culture and
Mission at Wesley Theological Seminary. The American University
Episcopal-Anglican Campus Ministry is sponsoring the event. Refreshments

NAIM ATEEK TO PREACH AT ST. MARK'S, CAPITOL HILL
The Rev. Naim Ateek, an Anglican priest who founded the Sabeel
Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem, will be the guest
preacher on Feb. 22 at St. Mark's, Capitol Hill. Ateek will give a
sermon seminar at 10 a.m. and will preach at the 11:15 a.m. service. St.
Mark's is located at 118 3rd Street, SE.

ISSUES OF AGING FORUMS AT ST. JOHN'S, LAFAYETTE SQUARE
Issues of Aging Forums sponsored by the St. John's, Lafayette Square
Pastoral Care Committee are set for Feb. 8 and Feb. 15 in the church's
Parish House (1525 H Street NW). Mary Ann Buckley and Annie Shaw of
Episcopal Senior Ministries will speak at both forums, which are
designed to appeal to all ages, from young adults who are thinking about
care for their aging parents to those already caring for aging parents
and anyone who is interested in planning for their own future. For

FAT TUESDAY CELEBRATION AT EPIPHANY, D.C.
Epiphany, D.C., will celebrate Fat Tuesday from 6 p.m. Feb. 24 with the
live music of Mike Flaherty's Dixieland Direct Band, jambalaya, King
Cake, a cash bar and a parade out on G Street. Adults, $15 and children
under 12, $5. A portion of the proceeds will go to Katrina recovery

Bishop John Bryson Chane and Christiana Carter, a member of St. Paul's,
Rock Creek, will be honored for their contributions to Samaritan
Ministry of Greater Washington at a Mardi Gras Celebration on Feb. 6.

SAVE THE DATE - EDOW STEWARDSHIP CONFERENCE
The Diocese of Washington will hold a Stewardship Conference from 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m. May 9 at Washington National Cathedral. Session information

THE CULTURES OF SCIENCE AND FAITH
The Rev. John Polkinghorne, physicist and Anglican priest, will present
"The Cultures of Science and Faith," a Trinity Foundation for
Christianity and Culture Program, at 6:30 p.m. February 10 at St.
Paul's, K Street. Polkinghorne, of Cambridge University, is a renowned
author and Templeton Prize Winner. All are welcome. No reservations

BENEDICTINE RETREAT
A Benedictine retreat, sponsored by The Friends of St. Benedict and the

SOAKING PRAYER PRESENTATION
The National Capital Chapter of the Order of St. Luke the Physician is
offering a special presentation on Soaking Prayer, a form of Christian

speaker Margaret Harper is a frequent leader of healing services at
retreats and church gatherings around the world. There is no charge.

STRATEGIC VISIONS FOR EPISCOPAL SCHOOLS CONFERENCE	
The Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association will hold a two-part
conference, "Strategic Visions for Episcopal Schools" Feb. 19-20 at the
Virginia Theological Seminary. School heads, rectors, senior and junior
wardens of the vestry, school boards, trustees, admissions, marketing
and development administrators, chaplains and division heads are
encouraged to attend. Topics include: "What is Episcopal, What should be
Episcopal, about our Curriculum?" "The Episcopal Identity of Our
Schools: Present Day Realities and Challenges for the Future;" and panel
discussions on marketing, strategic planning and enrollment. Contact

DIANA BUTLER BASS TO SPEAK AT ST. ANDREW'S, COLLEGE PARK
Diana Butler Bass will speak at 4:30 p.m. February 8 at St. Andrew's,
College Park on "Vital Congregations in the 21st Century." She is
currently senior fellow at the Cathedral College and author of several
books, including "Christianity for the Rest of Us" and "The Practicing
Congregation: Imagining a New Old Church." The lecture is sponsored by
the St. Andrew's Prange Education Endowment Fund. 

HUNGER FUND'S LENTEN PROGRAM 
The diocesan Hunger Fund is putting together a Lenten study package of
readings and reflections for each Sunday in Lent, as well as Palm
Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. Materials will be
available at the 2009 Diocesan Convention on Jan. 30-31. For more

NEW ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP
A new support group for those caring with someone with Alzheimer's
Disease led by ESM Cares' director of operations, Mary Ann Buckley
LICSW, began meeting in January. Meetings are set for 6 to 7 p.m. on the
first Wednesday of each month at Arden Courts, 10718 Potomac Tennis

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION MONTHLY SUPPORT GROUP
The Alzheimer's Association sponsors a monthly support group at St.
James', Potomac (11815 Seven Locks Road) for those caring for someone
with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. Meetings take
place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall on the third Thursday of
each month. All support givers are welcome. Facilitators trained by the
Alzheimer's Association will lead the group. For further information,
