FLOWER MART

Flower Mart, the annual fund raiser for the gardens and grounds of Washington National Cathedral, is set for Friday and Saturday (May 1- 2). Please note that parking on the Cathedral close is restricted today, and that the close will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday and Saturday. For those planning to attend Flower Mart, which this year features the United Kingdom, a shuttle bus service will run continuously from Tenleytown Metro from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.  

 

DIOCESAN MEETING ON DIOCESE OF JERUSALEM RELATIONSHIP

Bishop John Bryson Chane will host an open meeting to discuss the fall pilgrimage to Jerusalem and how a companion relationship with the Diocese of Jerusalem might function best from 6 to 8 p.m. May 28 in Trenbath Hall at St. Alban's, D.C. All are welcome.

 

LUTHERAN/EPISCOPAL WORKSHOP SET FOR MAY 27

"The Gifts of Called to Common Ministry for the Challenge of Our Daily Ministry," a workshop to explore how the Episcopal Lutheran agreement, Called to Common Ministry, can enhance our ministry, is set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 27 at the Virginia Theological Seminary. INTERFAITH FILM DIALOGUE 

Join members of the All Area Dulles Muslim Society and the Washington Hebrew Congregation to view a documentary produced for PBS, "Talking Through Walls; How the Struggle to Build a Mosque United a Community," followed by round table interfaith dialogue on the issues that the film raises: racism, freedom to worship and common misunderstandings about Islam. The event is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 11 at the Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW (a few blocks from the Cathedral). To RSVP contact the Rev. MARJORY BANKSON WORKSHOP 

Marjory Bankson, author of "The Call to the Soul," will lead a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon May 30 at Ascension, Lexington Park, which is open free of charge to all who wish to attend.  Her theme will be vocation: understanding our work as a call from God, whether it is family life, work in the church or one's daily occupation. BRITISH CHOIR FESTIVAL

The Cathedral Choral Society presents the British Choir Festival at 4 p.m. April 26 at Washington National Cathedral. This year's festival features the Canterbury Cathedral Choir, directed by David Flood, the Choir of Saint Thomas Church, New York, directed by John Scott, and the Washington National Cathedral Choir, directed by Michael McCarthy. ST. MARY'S FOGGY BOTTOM CELEBRATES 142ND ANNIVERSARY

St. Mary's Foggy Bottom will celebrate 142 years in the District with an Anniversary Service with Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. June 14 with the theme: "Called to Serve with All Our Gifts." Speaker will be Judge William Newman, Jr. A reception will follow the service.

 

INTERNATIONAL SUNDAY AT ST. GEORGE'S, D.C.

St. George's, D.C., will celebrate its 7th Annual International Sunday, "Celebrating Diversity and Unity," at Pentecost - 10 a.m. May 31. International cuisine and artifacts will be featured during a reception after the service. Ethnic attire is appreciated. THE POWER OF NONVIOLENCE - note corrected date

The Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Episcopal Peace Fellowship DC present, "The Power of Nonviolence; Tools for Personal and Social Change," on May 9 at St. Alban's, D.C. (Saterlee Hall). BOOK FAIR TO BENEFIT THE BISHOP WALKER SCHOOL 

A book fair to benefit the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys is set for 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 9 at the Politics & Prose Bookstore, 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW. The school will receive 20 percent of all purchases that day, and there also will be a "wish list" of books that can be purchased as a donation to the school library. Please note that a coupon, available at the store's cash registers, must be presented at checkout to ensure the Bishop Walker School receives 20 percent. UMD CHRISTIAN STUDIES PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Episcopal Campus Ministry, University of Maryland: The Christian Studies Living-Learning Program at UMD is receiving applications for housing for the 2009-2010 academic year. Students from all majors (graduate and undergraduate) may apply. The program is housed in the Episcopal Student Center, administered by the UMD Episcopal/Anglican Campus Ministry. Residents will have a private bedroom, access to the kitchen and utilities included in the rent. Please contact pantoci at umd.edu for an application.

CHILD CARE WORKERS - ST. ANDREW'S, COLLEGE PARK

St. Andrew's, College Park is looking for child care workers for its Sunday morning nursery.  Under the supervision of the Director of Christian Formation, the child care workers will provide care to infants and toddlers on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Duties include opening and setting up the nursery, providing supervised care and/or play, serving parent-provided snacks, and cleaning up and closing the nursery at noon.
