EUCHARIST TO COMMEMORATE THURGOOD MARSHALL
A special evening Eucharist to commemorate Thurgood Marshall on the
anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of
Education is set for 5:30 p.m. May 18 at St. Alban's, D.C., in concert
with Washington National Cathedral. The Rev. Canon Eugene Sutton,
Bishop-elect of Maryland, will preach, the Rev. Timothy A. Boggs will
celebrate and music director Sonya Sutton will lead a special music
offering. In 2006 the diocese passed a resolution asking the General
Convention of the Episcopal Church to recognize Marshall in the in the
book of Lesser Feasts and Fasts. This also calls for parishes throughout
the diocese to remember Marshall on a date near May 17 - the anniversary
of the famous Supreme Court case he argued for school desegregation.
AN APPEAL FROM THE HAITI MICAH PROJECT
St. Timothy's, D.C. is joining the Haiti Micah Project to help the
children of Haiti. The church is currently collecting clothes, shoes,
school supplies, vitamins and toiletries. The goal is to ship about 15
boxes to Haiti by May 15. Local churches are encouraged to join in by
collecting items or by making tax-deductible financial contributions to
assist with shipping. On Sundays through May 11, contributions may be
dropped off at St. Timothy's Parish Hall (3601 Alabama Avenue, SE,
Washington, DC, 20020) between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Checks payable
to The Haiti Micah Project can be sent to the church. To drop off items
on other days, please call the church at 202/582-7740 or Ruthie Quartey
at 202/345-1359 to make arrangements. Donations will be accepted through

LIGHTING TO UNITE
See Washington National Cathedral as you've never seen it before for
three nights - May 9 to 11 - when Swiss lighting artist Gerry Hofstetter
will create a spectacular exterior illumination of the south and west
sides, in celebration of the Cathedral's centennial. Images will be
projected directly onto the Cathedral from sunset to midnight. A live
musical performance is set for 6:30 p.m. May 10, and there will be a
special worship service, Sent Forth by the Spirit, at 11 a.m. May

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BISHOP HAINES - INVITATION TO CLERGY
A memorial service for Bishop Haines will take place at the Cathedral at
2 p.m. April 26. Active parish clergy, chaplains and retired clergy of
the diocese are invited to be present, to vest and to process. Please
arrive by 1:15 p.m. and gather in Bethlehem Chapel. Vest in alb and
white stole or cassock and surplice. Please respond to Kim Gilliam,

LOCKWOOD ART SALE TO BENEFIT THE BISHOP WALKER SCHOOL
The Lockwoods are selling their entire collection of more than 80 19th
century and early 20th century American oils, including landscapes,
portraits, seascapes and still-lifes. Ten percent of all sales will
benefit the Bishop Walker School. Most items are under $500. The sale is
set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 26 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 27 at
3019 Q Street, NW in Georgetown.
CLERGY CRAFT GROUP FORMING
Men and women clergy who enjoy using their hands and fabric, yarn or
thread to create something beautiful are invited to contact Carol Flett,
rector of St.Bartholomew's, Laytonsville and Interfaith Programs
Coordinator at the Cathedral College. She is gathering the names and
locations where interested clergy live and serve in order to suggest a
convenient site for a monthly late afternoon or evening group to meet.
The group would listen and chat, share creative skills and perhaps teach
others a new skill. The group would begin meeting in the summer months.

GEORGETOWN HOUSE TOUR
The annual Georgetown House Tour, to benefit the ministries of St.
John's, is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26. The tour includes a
bountiful afternoon tea in the St. John's Parish Hall (3240 O Street,
N.W.), served from 2 to 5 p.m. featuring homemade tea sandwiches and
sweets (cost included in the ticket price). Advance tickets are $40
(purchase by April 19), while tickets the day of the tour are $45.

CONGREGATIONS AND GIFTS IN MINISTRY WITH YOUNG ADULTS
Carol Howard Merritt, author of "Tribal Church: Ministering to the
Missing Generation" will explore ways to welcome youth and young adults

KREITLER ENVIRONMENTAL LECTURE AT VTS
On April 22, Virginia Theological Seminary will host the 2008 Kreitler
Environmental Lecture entitled, "Remembering the Land: Reading the Bible
Through Agrarian Eyes." The lecture, given by Ellen Davis, professor of
Bible and Practical Theology at Duke Divinity School, will begin at 7
p.m. in the Seminary's Lettie Pate Evans Auditorium. A reception will

TALENT SHOWCASE FOR THE EPISCOPAL CENTER FOR CHILDREN
The 10th Annual Talent Showcase for the Episcopal Center for Children is

LILLY ENDOWMENT - DEADLINE MAY 14
Applications for grants from the National Clergy Renewal Program,
sponsored by the Lilly Endowment, are due May 14. The grants support
extended sabbaticals for pastors and a complementary set of activities
for "congregational renewal" in their parishes. Additional information

that have an ordained pastor with a master of divinity degree from an
accredited theological school are eligible to apply.
BISHOP HAINES MEMORIAL SERVICE
There will be a memorial service for Bishop Ronald H. Haines at 2 p.m.
April 26 at Washington National Cathedral. An obituary for Haines, the

PARKING AT CHURCH HOUSE
Church House has concluded its practice of paying for parking for
guests, and will no longer validate parking for visitors. Parking will
still be provided, however, for major diocesan events at the Cathedral,
such as the Diocesan Convention, ordinations and confirmations. Other
parking options include street parking (2 hour limit). After 3:30 p.m.,
surface parking is permitted on the Cathedral Close.
20S 30S RETREAT
The Cathedral College and the diocesan Young Adult Ministries Network
are sponsoring the third in a series of retreats for people in their 20s
and 30s. "Awakening to the Spirit" is set for May 9-10 at the Cathedral
College. Retreat participants will learn several Christian prayer
practices for everyday spirituality. Sign up at

May 4 has been designated as Episcopal Senior Ministries Sunday.
Parishes are asked to pray for all seniors and their ministries in the

Cares Geriatric Care Management Service, The Fellowship of St. John,

Companionship course, which is designed to introduce the theory,

faith communities to help others discern the work of the Spirit in their
