LIVING IN THE CITY 2007 BENEFIT
The Transitional Housing Corporation and THC Affordable Housing Inc. are
hosting a Living in the City 2007 Benefit to support transitional and
affordable housing programs in Washington, D.C. The event is set for 6-8
p.m. June 1 at the 9th floor terrace of K&L Gates (1601 K Street, NW).
The Diocese of Washington and the Home Builder's Care Foundation will be
honorees. K&L Gates is accessible by metro at Farragut North (Red Line)

JOURNEY INTO ISLAM - AN INTERFAITH DISCUSSION
Journey Into Islam: A Discussion with Bishop John Bryson Chane, Rabbi
Bruce Lustig, and Muslim scholar Akbar Ahmed is set for 7-9 p.m. June 14
in Washington National Cathedral's Perry Auditorium. The panel will
discuss what religious leaders can do to promote dialogue and friendship

ACTIVE NONVIOLENCE WORKSHOP
The Episcopal Peace Fellowship is offering a workshop on "Active
Nonviolence - From Personal Conflict to Nonviolent Social Movements"

CANDLELIGHT PRAYER VIGIL FOR IMMIGRANT FAMILIES
The Interfaith Immigration Coalition is asking all people of faith to
take part in a Candlelight Prayer Vigil from 7-8 p.m. May 13 at
Lafayette Park opposite the White House to show support for and
solidarity with immigrant families. For more information, contact

CONCERT OF SACRED AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC
"Revelations & Psalms," a concert of sacred music by African American
composers/arrangers Howard Roberts and M. Roger Holland will take place
at 2:30 p.m. May 20 at St. Luke's, D.C. (1514 15th Street, Washington,
D.C., 20024). Admission is by free will offering. Free parking is
available in the church's lots.
FREE FURNITURE FROM CHURCH HOUSE
Church House has some furniture to give away free of charge for parish
use only. Interested parties are responsible for their own
transportation/pick up and should contact Linda Santiago at 202/537-6542
to check availability and arrange a time for collection. Items will be
given away on a first come, first serve basis, and must be collected by
1 p.m. June 4.

YOUTH GROUP DIRECTOR, ST. JOHN'S, NORWOOD
St. John's, Norwood is seeking an enthusiastic Youth Group Director who
has experience with mentoring teenagers (seventh through 12th graders).
The ideal candidate will be able to be a visible presence at St. John's,
and should be energetic, flexible, responsible and comfortable with both
parents and teens. Responsibilities include meeting with the youth group
for two hours each Sunday evening during the school year and planning
and attending occasional group events. Trips and special activities also

MEAL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS - SAMARITAN MINISTRY
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington and the Loaves and Fishes
program of St. Stephen and the Incarnation are seeking Meal Program
Volunteers to get to know noon-day guests at Saturday and Sunday meals
(as well as Monday holidays) to help them connect with appropriate local
resources and programs. Volunteers will receive specialized training and
will be asked to commit to at least one visit to Loaves and Fishes per
month. Training will take place from 9:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. June 9 at
St. Stephen's (1525 Newton Street NW). To register, contact

RACIAL RECONCILIATION TRAINING DATES SET
The diocese's Committee on Racial Reconciliation will conduct an
expanded and re-formatted Racial Reconciliation Training program on May
11-12 at Grace, Silver Spring (5-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday). Cost is $25 per person. Registration is limited to 40.
Refreshments and meals will be provided. Certification will be provided
to those completing the entire 12 hours of training; no partial credit
will be provided. Advanced registration is required, and closes May 8.

dates have also been scheduled, for: * Nov. 2-3 * Feb. 8-9, 2008 * May
16-17, 2008 * Nov. 14-15, 2008. Advance registration is required, and

ANGUS DUN GRANT APPLICATIONS DUE
The Angus Dun Fund was established to assist canonically resident clergy
with financial subsidy for continuing education. Grants are limited to
$1,000 per person per year and require each applicant to demonstrate the
benefit their program will have for their parish and/or the diocese. The
deadline for applications is May 29. For further information, please

COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM
The Ober, Kaler, Grimes & Shriver Law Firm has an annual grant program
to support organizations with educational programs focused on improving
the lives of disadvantaged children in the Washington, D.C., area.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits and community-based
organizations. The deadline for applications is Aug. 3.
Approximately $35,000 is available to fund three awards, ranging from

TASTE AND SEE...AN EXPERIENTIAL PRAYER CLASS
Join the Rev. Mpho Tutu on one or all of the following dates - May 19,
June 9, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17 - for "Taste and See" an experiential prayer
class. The two-hour classes will be held at Christ Church, Alexandria,
Va., beginning at 10 a.m. (9:30 a.m. registration). Pre-registration
price is $12; pre-registration deadline is the Friday one week before.

THURGOOD MARSHALL DAY
Bishop John B. Chane would like to remind congregations that May 17 has
been designated as Thurgood Marshall Day in the diocese. Because May 17
falls on a Thursday this year, churches are encouraged to commemorate
the Civil Rights leader and former Supreme Court Justice in their

FOURTH ANNUAL BISHOP'S APPEAL
The fourth annual Bishop's Appeal will be mailed to members of the
diocese during the first week of May. Please urge members of your

CALL FOR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES
Clergy are asked to contact Canon to the Ordinary Paul Cooney
(pcooney at edow.org) as soon as possible with preliminary estimates for
confirmation/reaffirmation/reception candidates for the May 19 and June
23 services at Washington National Cathedral.
CATHEDRAL'S NEW GARAGE IS NOW OPEN
Washington National Cathedral's new parking garage is now open. Visitors
to Church House should enter the garage from the main entrance off
Wisconsin Avenue and park on the first or second level. The parking
ticket received upon entrance can be validated for the diocese's invited
guests and committee members. Surface parking restrictions after 3:30
p.m. are lifted, so parking for evening meetings can be done at street
level and validation will not be needed.
SPRING CLERGY CONFERENCE
The diocese's Spring Clergy Conference is set for May 22-24 at Shrine
Mont, Va. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Margaret B. Guenther.

SAFEGUARDING GOD'S CHILDREN TRAINING
Dates and locations for Safeguarding God's Children training sessions
(prevention of child abuse training required by all paid church
employees and those working with children and youth - paid or volunteer)

NEW ORLEANS WORK TRIP, MEMORIAL DAY
As part of the diocesan WERK group, (Washington Episcopalians Respond to
Katrina), St. Alban's Gulf Coast Revival team will travel to New Orleans
from May 23 to May 28 to assist with cleanup and rebuilding efforts.
Housing will be provided for all participants, but volunteers are
responsible for all other expenses. All participants must be at least 16
