SAMARITAN MINISTRY SERVICE AT THE CATHEDRAL
All in the diocese are invited to a special Eucharist celebration and
picnic at the Washington National Cathedral in thanksgiving for
Samaritan Ministry's 20th Anniversary at 10 a.m. Oct. 14. Bishop Barbara
C. Harris will preach. A picnic on the grounds of the Cathedral will

SAFEGUARDING GOD'S CHILDREN - ADDITIONAL DATES
Safeguarding God's Children provides participants with the information
they need to protect the children they know and care for in their
personal lives and the ministries in which they serve. Training dates

VERNA DOZIER FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
The funeral of Verna Dozier is set for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at St.
Mark's, Capitol Hill (118 Third Street SE). Bishop Jane Holmes Dixon,
retired suffragan of Washington, will preside. Bishop Michael Curry of
North Carolina will be among the eulogists. *** Clergy, vest in white
stoles. *** The interment of ashes will take place at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 8
at St. Mark's columbarium.

2006 EPISCOPAL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION CONFERENCE
The Church Pension Group is hosting the 2006 Episcopal Business
Administration Conference for Parishes and Institutions for parishes in
our region. The conference will be held in Atlanta, Ga., and will
provide participants the opportunity to develop professional skills,
share resources and network with other parishes and institutions. Topics
will include current policies, services and new initiatives under
development at CPG. Dates for this years EBAC are Oct. 26-27. Register

ADVENT QUIET DAY
The Rev. Mpho Tutu, director of The Tutu Institute for Prayer and
Pilgrimag, will lead an Advent Quiet Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9
at All Souls Church (2300 Cathedral Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 20008).

PROGRAM MANAGER, CHARLIE'S PLACE AT ST. MARGARET'S
Charlie's Place, an outreach ministry of St. Margaret's, D.C., is
seeking a Program Manager for its homeless breakfast program. Must have
two to three years of program and managerial experience, college degree,
experience working with the homeless, comfort with faith-based programs,

ANGUS DUN GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE
The Angus Dun Grant Application deadline is Oct. 13. The Angus Dun
Fellowship Fund supports the continuing education of the clergy of the
Diocese of Washington. Grants of up to $1,000 are made according to
criteria detailed on the Web site,

RELIGIOUS VIGILS AGAINST TORTURE
The Washington Region Religious Campaign against Torture
(www.wrrcat.org) is planning a vigil along Massachusetts Avenue across
from the Naval Observatory on Sept. 26 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Participants
are asked to bring signs protesting torture everywhere. The diocese's
Commission on Peace and the Episcopal Peace Fellowship are members of
this interfaith group. For further information call Christine de

EPF TO TAKE PART IN PROCESSION TO END IRAQ WAR
The Episcopal Peace Fellowship will be one of the faith-based groups
participating in the procession on Congress to end the war in Iraq on
Sept. 26. Clergy are invited to don their stoles and lead the
procession. Location: Upper Senate Park on Constitution Avenue between
New Jersey and Delaware Avenues. An interfaith liturgy at 10:30 a.m.
will precede the procession at 11:30 a.m. This is part of the weeklong
activities of the Declaration of Peace campaign. For further

CATHEDRAL COLLEGE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The Cathedral College is looking for special events volunteers to lend a
hand at evening lectures and courses. For more information, contact

INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC COMMITTEE SEEKS NEW MEMBERS
The International Economic Committee, a subcommittee of the diocese's
Commission on Peace, is looking for a few more professional economists.
The group meets at lunchtime on the second Tuesday of each month. Among
its functions, the group offers speakers to parishes on current economic

SACRED GROUNDS
This group for young Episcopalians in the diocese (20s/30s) will meet at
7 p.m. Oct. 6 at St. Thomas', D.C. (1772 Church St, NW) for evening
prayer and Eucharist followed by "Octoberfest" - beverages, bratwurst

JUST IN TIME FOR THE NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL YEAR... 
Extensive new resources compiled by the diocese's Christian Formation

information on teaching Sunday School, leading a youth group, organizing
adult education offerings and planning intergenerational activities.
 
MINISTRY DEPLOYMENT CONFERENCE
The Rev. Mary Sulerud, canon for deployment and vocational ministry,
will represent the diocese at the Fall Ministry Deployment Conference in
Roanoke, Va. (Oct. 14-17). If you are a canonically resident or licensed
clergy person and would like your credentials presented at the
conference for deployment consideration, please submit an updated resume
and CDO profile to Sulerud or George McConnell by Oct. 6. The materials
should be submitted as an e-mail attachment and sent to

DOCC PROGRAM - CHANGE OF DATES
Disciples of Christ in Community (DOCC), a Christian formation program,
will take place at Washington National Cathedral this fall. The program
is set for 7 to 9 p.m. (with an optional supper at 6 p.m.) on Tuesday
nights from OCT. 10 through JAN. 23, skipping Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, with a
required retreat day on OCT. 21. Dean Samuel T. Lloyd and the Rev.
William Barnwell, the cathedral's canon missioner, will give the
presentations, and participants will respond in small groups. If you are

will preach.

VTS FALL MINISTRY CONFERENCE
VTS will hold a one-day Fall Ministry Conference on Nov. 14 at its

A simultaneous open house at the Episcopal-affiliated senior housing
communities in the diocese is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 12.  Each
community will offer activities and tours so seniors and their families
can check out the services and programs available. Participating
communities are Collington, Cedar Lane, St. Philip's House, Friendship

ALZHEIMER'S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP AT ST. JAMES', POTOMAC 
The Alzheimer's Association is sponsoring a monthly support group at St.
James', Potomac (11815 Seven Locks Road) for those caring for someone
with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. Meetings take
place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall on the third Thursday of
each month. All support givers are welcome to come. Two facilitators
trained by the Alzheimer's Association lead the group. For further
