The Rev. Canon John R. Frizzell, Jr., retired priest of the Diocese of
Washington, died this morning (Dec. 13), at Goodwin House in Alexandria,
Va. 

Canon Frizzell was born in 1920, and was graduated from the University
of Virginia and Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the
priesthood by Bishop Robert F. Gibson, Jr., and served several churches
in the Diocese of Virginia, including St. Paul's, Ivy and St. Alban's,
Annandale. He was the founder of St. Alban's Housing Corporation. 

Frizzell, who was former chairman of the Diocese of Washington's
Commission on Peace and convener of the Region 6 clericus, retired as
Executive Officer of the diocese in 1999. He resided at Goodwin House
until his death.

A service in thanksgiving for his life will be held at 2:30 p.m.,
Saturday, Dec. 16 at St. Paul's, Ivy, which is near Charlottesville.

The diocese has contacted the family in the hopes of arranging a
memorial service in this area.
